"Attractiveness, quality and style" means that the cabinets are made from good materials and are well-designed. Shoddy, particle-board cabinets, flimsy doors, poor paint finishes or cabinets with dings or scratches are to be avoided. While your cabinets do not need to look like they are in a showroom -- this is a garage after all! -- they do need to convey strength, functionality and a certain self-confidence about how they look. Coordinated color schemes are a must. Good finishes are expected. And strong materials will only add to the value.
A more common garage cabinet material is of course wood. Wooden cabinets are available in many styles and can be a great place to start for an inexpensive solution to garage storage. Wood cabinets can be constructed out of a variety of materials such as hardwood, plywood, particle board and MDF. They can come finished, unfinished or laminated with a variety of materials such as Formica or PVC. The shelving and frame construction and connection methods vary from simple nailed or screwed designs, to cam lock systems or dovetail joinery. It is important to choose a construction method appropriate to the cabinets intended use.
There are many options when it comes to garage storage and if you are looking for garage cabinets, then plastic cabinets are definitely an option if you are looking to save money but still have a nice look to your garage space. With the lower price point however, comes some problems that you will not find in say metal garage cabinets. When you look at the pros and cons of plastic garage cabinets, you will be able to see if they do not offer some things that you may be looking for in a storage solution, or if the price is low enough that you are willing to settle for what they offer.
Ready-Made Garage Cabinets. Resin cabinets by companies such as Rubbermaid are easy to locate and move. These are portable units and can also be used outdoors. Wood cabinets for garages are usually laminated particle board or plywood. These vary greatly in quality and durability. Look for adjustable shelves and multiple hinges, and hinges that let the door clear the opening. There are also real wood cabinets of a quality and price comparable to the finest kitchen cabinetry. They are usually custom made to order. Metal cabinets are usually made of powder-coated steel, as in automotive workshop storage, and can also be found in stainless steel.
